carbon cycle
According to San Marin Science, "Without human impact, the amount of carbon put in/taken out of the atmosphere is equal. Carbon is put into the atmoshpere by the decompositon of plants and animals and respiration; and the same exact amount is taken out of the atmosphere by photosynthesis. With humans putting so many gases back into the atmosphere (fossil fuels), there ends up being 9 extra gigatons or carbon into the atmoshpere which isn't even close to the 5 gigatons that photosynthesis can take in. with non-electric houses it can stop the amount of carbon being put out into the atmosphere. Even though one house won't make a big difference, if a lot of business and houses did it, it would be a lot of help for the atmosphere."
As you can see in the picture to the left, burning fossil fuels, plant respiration, and human/animal respiration puts carbon into the atmosphere. Then photosynthesis takes the carbon out of the atmosphere and stores into the plants. The animals then eat the plants and the carbon goes back into the soil through organic matter where the carbon goes deep into the soil and ends up back in the coal and oil until the whole cycle happens.
